The Talented Mister Brad Goreski.

Meet Brad Goreski, Rachel Zoe's stylist and fashion mastermind. We first met him on the first season of the Rachel Zoe Project. He was learning the business  of working with celebrities and co-workers. We got to see him cry and lose it sometimes, but what I remember about him the most is his style. He was always dressed perfectly, in complete looks from eye wear to socks. Whether it was jeans and plaid shirts to suits and bow ties, Perfect. I really want them to bring the Rachel Zoe Project back for season 3.

Musical Genius.

Meet Ryan Leslie, the man behind great music. I have tracked the career of the man dating back to Cassie's first album, which he executive produced. his resume is long and so creditable, he's worked with some the best artist in the industry. This man's way of producing and creating his music is so pure and complex. I love that he uses actual instruments in the process. Then, his fashion sense is so ole school but modern. He is bring back the clean Hollywood glam to menswear. He wears European cut suit, bold colors with patterns and just the right accessories. In my book, he is a true musician and well on his way to being a legend/icon in the industry. Be on the look out for more coming from him.

Below is a Promo video of his two day, June 22nd and 32rd, concert at the Browey in NYC.
And here is a look into the life of the man.

Look to the Hill.

Lauryn Hill performed at the 2010 Harmony Festival in Santa Rosa, CA. She performed three old favorites; "Doo Wop (That Thing)", "Turn Your Lights Down Low", and "Ooh La La La". My favorite is "Turn Your Lights Down Low." I really want this young lady to come back and grace this world with some new music. Come back Lauryn.

Countdown to the Crown.

Hi lovelies!

I’m here to give you an international and more specifically a modern African perspective on fashion and culture. I couldn’t be more excited to have this awesome job and responsibility. Perhaps I should start by telling you a little about me. I am a lover. I am empowered. I am a sociologist with a pen and a voice. I am a global citizen but my origins are in Liberia, West Africa. I will be representing Liberia in the Miss Africa USA 2010 pageant. Therefore for the next five weeks I’ll be giving you a weekly dose of the life of a foreign pageant queen and fashion and culture lover. This is the Countdown to the Crown. Pageantry. Modern African culture. International perspective. Find it here.

Week 5: …and then there were 32.

So, this has been quite the journey. I started auditioning for the title of Miss Africa USA in August of 2009 and almost a year later it has proven to be a true test of my tenacity. Over 250 young women applied for this title and of that number 32 of us remain. I completely understand why so few are still here; this is hard! The balance of work, school for some, career goals, family and some kind of social life in between is sometimes overwhelming. So add a pageant with six costume changes, talent and micro project requirements and much more to that list and you can see why only the strong have survived. In fact, I just discovered today that one of the young ladies have bowed out gracefully only weeks away from the pageant.

As for me, I welcome this challenge, not always with a smile but I welcome it nonetheless. Crown or not this pageant has given me an opportunity to really find who I am and what matters most to me. It has brought me closer to my culture and to other African cultures and people. It has given me focus, better time management skills and more confidence in who I am and want to be. So, as I embark on one week closer to it all I share with you my anticipation of greatness, fear of disappointment and the fabulosity in between. My costumes are top secret but check out some of my inspirations below. One week closer to the Crown…

A Simply Introduction.

A long process is an understatement, two years is the length and time that has been well spent. Let me give you some back history, Mikey Lewis and myself came up with an idea of starting a blog. The easy part was the idea, the process was the difficult part. Currently, everyone is starting a blog about the same thing; fashion, art and music. We didn't want to do the norm, so we took our time and carefully thought about every aspect of this BLOG thing. So we started  with one, Space Cadets, it didn't work that well, so we scraped that and started over. We had  several different writers to start with us and then drop off. However, we keep the faith and moved forward. Say hello to Heybandgeeks.com. This is our baby. We have found new members to join us, to progress this movement. Here at Heybandgeeks, we will conduct interviews with some truly talented individuals, along with giving you some info about the latest finds among fashion, art and music. GET READY cause we're here! Get to know my team.
Meet Mikey Lo, the music man. I met Mikey about three years ago, at Clark Atlanta University fashion show tryouts. We shared a bound for fashion and the production side of fashion shows. We both continued to work with the fashion shows, growing our friendship. We then decided to start a blog, working together even closer. Mikey recently graduated from CAU with a degree in Mass Media Communication, Radio. He played the role of Radio director for CAU Radio. Now, Mikey will attending  hair school and working on Heybandgeeks. Expect great things coming from him soon.
One of the loves of my life, Anna Grace, has blessed me with joining the team. I met this young lady at a shoot with Marquis Laurent. She came to the shoot ready to work and very professional. She embodied the spirit of Grace Jones, which is where she got her inspiration for her name. Well, after the shoot, she and I started to hang out and discuss fashion and her love of shoes. This young woman, has some of the sickest shoes I have seen and she is always up on the latest pair. She has traveled the world at a young age, along with experiencing life in the states. She is currently at Bauder College, gaining a degree in fashion merchandising. I can't wait for you all to hear the sense of style from this young lady.
Meet ME but from another mother, Marquis Laurent. When I met this young man, I felt like we finally found each other. He is a up and coming stylist here in Atlanta. He recently graduated from Bauder College, with his degree in fashion merchandising. We have worked together on some shoots and looking forward to doing some new stuff for the future. His eye for fashion and details bring a new and fresh aspect of using vintage clothing with modern looks to life. He currently works at Element Model Management, as the New Face Director and agency stylist. Expect great things from him.
Finally myself, Carter James. I am here to just give you what I feel about life and entertainment. I love ever bit of my life and where I am going with it. I am currently in school, working towards a PR/graphic design degree.I have alot of plans and projects coming this fall. Get ready guys.
With this site, look forward to seeing alot from us!

Planted to Grow.

As I, an up and coming photographer, always try to find pics that I love and draw inspiration from it. I ran across this pics of Bianca Golden, one my favorite contestants on America's Next Top Model. She, in my opinion, came on the show to simply model. The whole point of the show. I love this picture because the lighting used, along with passion behind her eyes. Get to know this young lady, she is making big moves in the industry.

Flea Market Joys.

June 11th and 12th, L.A. based company, American Apparel, head their first Flea Market event in Atlanta. This event offered products from headbands to cord pants at a discount. This event drew out some Atlanta's hipsters, trendsetters, stylist, artist and so much more. I had the chance to attend the event with Marquis Laurent and a good friend D. Salley, we waited in line for about twenty minutes. Once we entered, we realized what we wanted wasn't here. Awwww man, was the only expression that came to mind. Thankful I went, I love AA and will be visiting the store soon.

The Wait is Soon to be Over.

Now I live in Atlanta, where everyone believes they are a celebrity and have to be photographed. Well I have meet true celebrities and they go by, the Beat Sisters. Alisha and Denise Anderson are two model/socialite young ladies, gracing the presence of Atlanta. I had the pleasure of working with in fashion shows, photo shoots and gerenally, hanging around them, being themselves. They are some of the sweetest, most genuine lady I had met. And their fashion game is dope. Ladies take notes from these two, on how to TIP out the house correctly. Expect an interview/feature on them soon.
Don't sleep on them!
